9 things for 19th
Alright, here I go.
I turned 19 yesterday and so I think it’s only fair I condense a year’s worth of gyaan into this blog today 😛
Yesterday at 11:57 AM, 3 minutes before my birthday ended, I wrote down a few goals that I would work towards relentlessly this year, not letting a single day go to waste. Making this year count before I enter the dreaded 20s….
So you best believe I’m locking myself up and getting buried nose-deep in work that I am yet to finish and get done. Zahra cave mode is officially activated till 27th March 2027. Goodbyeeee social life.
Let’s get started!!!!!
1. Do just one interesting thing every month
To make the year memorable, because looking back, that’s what will make the year worth it.
I read somewhere that if you can’t remember something, it’s probably because it wasn’t memorable, hence I’m going to curate many more interesting experiences and make it a fuller year.
2. Sign up for a race / sports event / marathon
This was new for me.
I usually like to be very spontaneous and don’t like signing up for things early on, but I think this taught me to prepare well and look forward to what’s coming, and hopefully train for it too.
It gives you a sense of purpose and holds you accountable for race day, and that leaves you feeling much more fulfilled when you overcome hard training days in comparison to just doing regular training. It feels rewarding.
3. Always Shazam good music
I have found the best music that I enjoy during commutes, either in the subway, in the car with friends, outside at a restaurant, while watching old movies, etc.
It makes me like the song much more when there is a memory attached to it.
4. If someone has a good track record of being right, they are probably right
Yes, I’m talking about your parents and dear friends when they tell you not to do the stupid thing you think is not stupid to do.
5. Sleep early and wake up early
This just always gives the highest returns.
Nothing compares.
6. I have finally learnt not to feel entitled
I’m not entitled to anything I want. Everything I want, I must get myself.
That’s been liberating, because once you actually do go ahead and get or achieve what you intend to, all by yourself, it feels so much better.
7. The value of friendship
I’ve always taken this for granted and believed I can be in solitude forever and that’s that.
But it’s not until the very kind message you get a day before your birthday reminding you that you are thought about and cared for… I’ve never felt gratitude like that before.
8. “These are the cards you’ve been dealt with.”
Every time I hate the situation I’m in, I remember this:
These are the cards you’ve been dealt with.
And that dissolves the hate into acceptance, and then ultimately into problem solving.
9. I have learnt that I feel best when I have my own thing going on
A routine, a goal, a project, a plan, something.
I just don’t think I do very well when I’m floating.
That’s all, adios.I’m not sure how often I will write but I really hope I write again soon. Thank you. ☺️
